GTA 6 trailer makes early debut after leak, confirming 2025 release and Vice City setting

After years of rumors and speculation, the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI from Rockstar Games has been released. The trailer was initially leaked less than a day before its planned debut, prompting Rockstar to release it early. As rumoured, GTA VI will take players to Vice City – and the wider state of Leonida – and is scheduled to launch in 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Rockstar Games has previously confirmed that it is developing the next GTA game, but this is the first time we’ve gotten any level of detail on what to expect. Based on the trailer, it seems that the rumors were also true that GTA VI will feature two protagonists – a man and a woman. The female character looks like an ex-con, we see what looks like a form of social media in-game, and we also see a lot of TikTok and Instagram Reel style videos. There’s a Florida Man joke too, and we see the Leonida Wetlands as well as Vice City, which is Rockstar’s take on Miami.

Other details include an airboat, an alligator being pulled from a backyard pool (and later, entering a store), police body camera footage, the return of the Weazel News, dirt bikes and quad bikes, an obvious convenience story heist, and lots of neon lights. . You can check out some screenshots from the trailer above.

“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the boundaries of what is possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” Rockstar founder Sam Houser said in a press release. “We are thrilled to be able to share this new vision with gamers everywhere.”

The press release confirms that the game is set in Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida, where players will visit “the neon-filled streets of Vice City and beyond.”

All of this is more of a mood-setter than a particularly revealing reveal of how this game will be a step forward from Grand Theft Auto V, which was first released in 2013, beyond confirming the name, setting, and release date window. There’s also no mention of what to expect from GTA Online – it’s an open question whether Rockstar will release a new standalone mode, continue development on the existing game, or something else. The press release describes GTA VI as “the largest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series to date.”

As mentioned above, the game has been confirmed for a 2025 release on PS5 and Xbox Series The press release didn’t mention the PC version; It’s possible that will come later, as was the case with GTA V.
