Google is expected to launch its upcoming Pixel 2 range of smartphones on October 4. Past leaks have already given us a good idea about the device’s hardware and design.
However, the latest rumor suggests that Google may drop the standard SIM card slot in its upcoming Pixel 2 handsets. Instead, Google the Pixel 2 is rumored to feature an embedded SIM card (eSIM) which essentially lets you switch carriers without switching SIM cards. It’s the same technology deployed on the new cellular Apple Watch 3.
That said, nothing is official and we’d suggest readers should take this information with a grain of salt. Also, the fact that having an eSIM slot would make Pixel 2 work properly with Google Fi. However, that won’t be the case in other international markets.
Coming to the specifications, leak indicates that both Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will run the latest Snapdragon 835 processor. Up front, the smaller Pixel 2 will feature a 1080p display, while the larger Pixel XL 2 will pack a QHD display with support for Wide Color Gamut. The screen will be flanked by stero speakers on the front. Both handsets will also get Corning Gorilla 5 protection along with IP67 dust and resistant rating.
In the camera department, both Google Pixel 2 handsets will not feature a dual-lens cameras setup – a fast becoming trend in modern day flagship phones. Instead, they’ll stick to a single lens camera setup bundled LED flash and OIS.
Elsewhere, the smaller Google Pixel 2 will be powered by a 2700mAH battery while the big one is rumored to get a 3250mAh battery. Both handsets will be offered in a choice of 64GB and 128GB storage options bundled with unlimited Google cloud storage.
Earlier this week, leaked renders of the Pixel 2 range also surfaced on the web, revealing some interesting color options for both handsets. According to the leak, the smaller Pixel 2 manufactured by HTC will come in three color options. These include a gray/blue hybrid, a black and gray mix, along with a plain White model.
The Google Pixel 2 XL, its larger sibling built by LG will only come in two color variants. These include a dark gray/black color combination along with a white and black iteration.
