Finland: Outgoing Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Divorce – Panorama

Outgoing Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her husband Markus Räikkönen have filed for divorce after nearly three years of marriage. The 37-year-old social democrat and his longtime partner explained this in their stories on Instagram on Wednesday.

Marin and Raikkonen got married in the summer of 2020 after being together for about 16 years. They met when they were 18-year-old students. They now have a five-year-old daughter. They wrote that they are grateful for their 19 years together and their beloved daughter. “We continue to be best friends and close and loving parents.”

Marin hit the headlines in the summer of 2022 with a party video showing the young head of government dancing. Despite the current political world climate, which includes the war in Ukraine and the 1,300-kilometer-long border between his country and Russia, Marin’s enthusiastic celebration brought him some moral criticism. But Marin also got a lot of support. A subsequent drug test clarified speculation that the 36-year-old was not only dancing with joy, but had also taken illegal substances.

Despite the gains, Marin and his Social Democrats finished third in Finland’s parliamentary elections in early April. Conservative winner Petteri Orbo is currently leading government talks to form a centre-right coalition. Marin will remain in office until a new government is formed. He took office at the end of 2019, making him the world’s youngest prime minister at the time.
