Facebook is rolling out a new feature to its app called Find WiFi. As the name suggests, the feature helps users find the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot shared by business and enterprises in their vicinity.
The feature isn’t exactly entirely new given the fact it was already available on iOS, though was limited in its ability. It was released last year in several countries and soon became rather popular among users. Hence, the social networking behemoth has rolled out an update to its app with the new Find WiFi feature. The feature is now available on both iOS and Android devices across the globe.
“We launched Find WiFi in a handful of countries last year and found it’s not only helpful for people who are traveling or on-the-go, but especially useful in areas where cellular data is scarce,” Facebook said in a statement.
How to use Find WiFi Feature on Facebook
To access the Find WiFi feature, just launch the Facebook app and head over to the profile menu which you can find besides the notifications icon on top of the app. Once you’ve triggered the Find WiFi feature found within the ‘More’ tab in the Facebook app, the available Wi-Fi hotspots within your current location show up in the form of a list or either displayed on a map.
Also, users will come across a short description of operating hours in a particular location for added convenience. Facebook will also give directions to any cafe or business you select on the Map.
For now, we’re still unsure as to how Facebook aims to make revenue with the Find W-Fi feature. That said, it should give users all the more reason to spend time on the app. With over 2 billion monthly active users, there’s no doubt users will find it rather useful to find the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot and avail the benefits of free Internet. Also, the feature should come in rather handy in areas where network infrastructure and cellular connectivity isn’t that robust.
