Actress Emmy Rossum stars in a new Peacock TV series called “Angelyne,” named after a woman who gained fame in Los Angeles for being the “Queen of Billboards.” In order to transform into an ’80s icon, Rossum spent up to five hours in the makeup chair to get a heavy prosthesis on her chest.

Rossum, who has been the series’ “champion” from the start, attended a major business meeting with NBC Universal in a full costume, fake breasts, three pounds and all.

“The character’s physicality was tough,” Rossum told The Hollywood Reporter. “The body is heavy, yet it should feel light and sparkling.”

Rossum is an executive producer of the program via her company Composition 8. Her husband, Sam Esmail, creator of Mr. Robot, is also an executive producer of “Angelyne”.

“When I say there were times I didn’t recognize her because she got lost in the face of this person, I really mean it,” Ismail told The Hollywood Reporter. “This is my wife I’m talking about. It’s kind of weird.”

Born Ronia Tamar Goldberg in 1950, Angeline became a staple of Los Angeles life when she paid to create a series of billboards in the California city in 1984. The billboards showed Angeline wearing underwear with her name written in hot pink lettering.

Known for driving her hot pink Corvette around town, she has been involved in everything from acting to singing to running in California Governors’ races more than once. Rossum became interested in telling Anglin’s story in a limited series after reading a 2017 article, and five years later her goal had been achieved.
