Eligible NHL Draft players are ranked by top puck skills, top skaters and more

Today we are looking at the prospects for the 2022 NHL Draft who are the best skaters, they have the best puck skills, hockey feel and shooting and are the most physically dominant players.

The number of players included in each group will not be equal, because I am trying to show the higher level for each attribute, and this higher level may vary in length.

The best skaters

  1. Brad Lambert, right winger, Pelicans-League
  2. Denton Matichuk, MD, Moss Jo-WHL
  3. Ryan Healey, RHD, Sioux Falls-USHL
  4. Calle Odelius, LHD, Djurgarden-Sweden Jr.
  5. Michael Fisher, RHD, St. Mark’s-US High School
  6. Spencer Sova, MD, Erie-OHL
  7. Samuel Savoy, LW, Gatineau-QMJHL
  8. Miguel Torini, RHD, Acadie-Bathurst-QMJHL
  9. Logan Cooley, C., US NTDP-USHL
  10. Frank Nazar, C, US NTDP-USHL
  11. Philip Mesar, Ayman, Poprad, Slovakia
  12. Ty Nelson, RHD, North Bay-OHL
  13. Jerry Lasella, C, JYP-Finland Jr.
  14. Amadeus Lombardi, C, Flint-OHL
  15. Cedric Gwendon, LW, Owen Sound-OHL
  16. Jake Levanavage, Ph.D., Ph.D., Chicago-USHL

Brad Lambert at the top of this list should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched him for a few bouts. Lambert can certainly fly. It is a single person area entry due to its speed and skill. Matichuk is also a player who can play really fast and make a lot of players miss the offensive blue line because of his feet. Healey hasn’t had a great trial season, but the talent stands out because of his great skateboarding and some humiliation. However, his hockey sense and defense are problematic. Odelius has a strong stride and will be able to skate with the pros and move pucks at higher levels despite not being the biggest defensive man. Fisher is an interesting potential pro due to his large body and feet, but whether he can move the disc is a question. Savoie flies around the ice and brings a lot of energy to the changes due to his speed and competition. It’s small and doesn’t have much of an insult, though.

Best puck skills

  1. Logan Cooley, C., US NTDP-USHL
  2. Danila Yurov, RW, Magnitogorsk-KHL
  3. Isaac Howard, LW, US NTDP-USHL
  4. Noch Ostlund, C, Djurgarden-Sweden Jr.
  5. Juraj Slafkovsky, LW, TPS-Liiga
  6. Jack HughesC, northeast of eastern hockey
  7. Victor Neuchev, LW, Avtomobilist-MHL

Pure Collie’s skill level is superb. He can perform unique plays with the disc and does so at a high rate. Cooley is loved not only for his skill, but also for his ability to do many challenging plays at a fast pace. In fact, Koli, Yurov, Ostlund and Slavkovsky can perform highly skilled maneuvers at high speeds. Howard, Hughes, and Neuchev lack that kind of speed, but they can all control a phone booth – especially Howard. When Hughes was coming, I was astonished by his skill level. He didn’t have a huge trial season, but if he appears in later years, it will be because of his skill.

The best sense of hockey

  1. Lynn Hutson, LHD, US NTDP-USHL
  2. Shane Wright, C, Kingston-OHL
  3. Logan Cooley, C., US NTDP-USHL
  4. Simon Nemec, RHD, Nitra-Slovakia
  5. Matthew Savoy, C/RW, Winnipeg-WHL
  6. Seamus Casey, RHD, US NTDP-USHL
  7. Mats Lindgren, PhD in the Humanities, Kamloops-WHL
  8. Jordan Dumais, RW, Halifax-QMJHL
  9. Miguel Torini, RHD, Acadie-Bathurst-QMJHL
  10. Vladimir Grudinin, Ph.D., CSKA-MHL
  11. Calle Odelius, LHD, Djurgarden-Sweden Jr.
  12. Jeremy Langlois, MD, Cape Breton-QMJHL

Hutson’s brain works differently from other players on the ice. Every time he gets a disc, especially in the O-zone, he has the elite vision of constantly finding plays to make chances. His fellow NTDP teammate in the US, Casey is also a very clever puck drive who makes many plays, but Hutson is on a different level. Wright, Cole, and Savoy are great playmakers who see ice at a very high level. They can all run plays at high speeds, and therefore expect to be able to lead a line at higher levels. You see a lot of the defenders on this list aren’t the biggest players like Nemec and Lindgren, but they can all turn the disc very well and deliver the attack.

Most physically dominant players

  1. Jack Sparks, RHD, St Michael-OJHL
  2. Maveric Lamoureux, RHD, Drummondville-QMJHL
  3. Kirill Dolzhenkov, right wing, CSKA-MHL
  4. Lian Bichsel, LHD, Leksands-SHL
  5. Noah Warren, RHD, Gatineau-QMJHL
  6. David Jiricek, RHD, Plzen-Czechia
  7. Nathan Gaucher, C, Quebec- QMJHL
  8. Reed Schaefer, LW, Seattle – WHL
  9. Juraj Slafkovsky, LW, TPS-Liiga
  10. Samuel Meyer, MD, Peterborough-OHL

What do I mean by most physically dominant players? I try to describe guys who are hard to play against, who will tire you out and plan to win a lot of physical fights against guys. It’s no surprise to start with Sparkes and Lamoureux. They are two towers of power with heights of 6ft 8, 6ft and 7 respectively that compete hard and use their big tires to win balls. Dolzhenkov is also a massive 6ft 6ft guy, but as a striker, you love how he can build around the net and get in the high percentage areas. Defenders like Bichsel, Warren and Jiricek have good size but are arguably the most physically demanding defenders in the draft who make life miserable to resist the attackers. On the other hand, Gaucher and Schaefer are great strikers who can bypass opposing defenders and play well in areas with a high percentage.

best shots

  1. Jonathan Likremäki, right wing, Djurgarden – SHL
  2. Ivan Miroshchenko, LW, Avangard-VHL
  3. Gauthier cutter, C/LW, US NTDP-USHL
  4. Matthias Haveld, RHD, Linkoping-Sweden Jr.
  5. Jäger Ferkus, RW, Moose Jaw-WHL
  6. Elias Salomonson, RHD, Skelleftea-Sweden Jr.

In terms of pure scorers, he won’t be much better in this draft than Miroshnichenko and Lekkerimaki. They can take pucks out of points and pose constant goal-scoring threats wherever they are in the attack zone, but especially from the left circle. Gauthier has emerged this season as the top goal-scoring option as well, being the driving man for Cooley’s games industry on the US NTDP. It’s rare for so many defenders to feature on the top picks list, but Havlid and Salomonsson’s point shots have been legitimate threats at the Swedish junior circuit this season.
