Drone video reportedly shows Russian soldiers shooting dead three POWs. Ukrainian units now want to capture one of the war criminals. The man talks about the brutality in front of the camera.

The Ukrainian military has captured a Russian soldier in the east who allegedly shot dead Ukrainian prisoners of war. According to Ukrainian media, three Ukrainian soldiers were killed in a fight in New York City in early September. They laid down their arms and surrendered in the Donetsk region. But they were immediately shot dead by Russian soldiers. The crime was monitored and filmed by a drone. The culprits are clearly visible in the video.

But now one of these Russian soldiers has been captured by members of the 12th Special Operations Brigade “Azov” and the 49th Assault Battalion. The 12th Brigade released a video online of the man being interrogated. “We hit a firing position and after we captured it, three soldiers were captured, Ukrainian soldiers,” the man says in his interrogation. “The senior officer contacted headquarters and they responded over the radio: ‘We don’t have time to deal with the prisoners, don’t take them with you.’ The order was given to shoot them, which the group carried out.

The execution of the three Ukrainians was not an isolated case. “I have often heard on the radio that no prisoners should be taken,” says the man. As the investigation continued, he revealed that Russian soldiers were also executed by their own troops if they refused to participate in massive attacks against Ukrainian positions. “If a team doesn’t want to go forward, they’re shown a ‘red card’, then another team comes in, and then if they don’t go forward, they’re kicked out immediately.”

The Russian soldier has now been handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine. The Prosecutor’s Office of the Donetsk Region is investigating the case. Ukrainska Pravda reports that the state prosecutor’s office is now aware of 93 shootings of Ukrainian prisoners of war, citing an intelligence agency. The General Prosecutor’s Office in Kiev announced on Wednesday that the Russian army had killed 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war near the town of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region.
