Iran has converted a container ship into a warship: the “Shahid Mahdavi” is said to be able to carry large amounts of explosives and apparently serves as a launch pad for drones and missiles. Now it has been sent on a long journey. It is not clear where the ship is.

DThe Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has intercepted a missile-equipped warship on a long-range cruise. As reported by radio on Saturday, “Shahid Mahdavi” crossed the equator towards the Southern Hemisphere for the first time in the world’s oceans. Exactly where the ship is is not known.

“Shahid Mahdavi” was delivered a year ago as a replacement for a container ship. The ship serves as a sea base for the Iranian Navy, with launchers for drones and missiles. The launch of the medium-range missiles, which can reach targets 1,700 kilometers away, was tested for the first time in February.
