Poland gets first Abrams battle tanks

Poland is one of the biggest supporters of Ukraine under attack. This also applies to distribution of tanks. In compensation, the country now receives the first of hundreds of main battle tanks from the US. But it won’t stop.

A total of 366 Abrams main battle tanks were received by Poland from the US. Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak wrote on Twitter that 28 used tanks had arrived at a Polish military training center. Training for soldiers will begin soon. “We will be ready when the first of the 250 brand new tanks we ordered arrive.”

In April, Poland and the United States agreed to purchase new M1A2 Abrams tanks for the equivalent of four billion euros, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2023. Also, the country will receive 116 used Abrams tanks. They are used for training, but also to replace older tanks of Soviet design, which Poland sent as weapons aid to Russia-attacked Ukraine.

Blaszczak announced in Warsaw that Poland will add the American Patriot air defense system and Turkish Pyrektor drones to its arsenal later this year. The Eastern European Union and NATO member considers itself a close ally of the United States and is one of Ukraine’s most ardent military and political supporters.
