The Kremlin accuses the US of prolonging the war

The US wants to supply modern weapons systems to Ukraine in its fight against Russia – and doing so has drawn the ire of Moscow. Kremlin envoy Anatoly Antonov insisted the armored personnel carriers had no “defensive character”. He accused Washington of deliberately prolonging the war.

Moscow’s ambassador to Washington has accused the United States of not wanting to end the war after it announced the delivery of armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov said that all recent US actions directly show that Washington has no desire for a political solution in Ukraine, according to TASS, the Russian state agency in Washington. “There should be no doubt as to who is responsible for perpetuating the recent conflict.”

For the first time, Germany and the US want to provide armored personnel carriers to Ukraine to fight against Russian aggressors. The US wants to supply tanks of the “Bradley” type. In addition to the “Mortar” tanks, Germany also intends to supply the “Patriot” anti-aircraft battery for air defense. The United States had already committed itself to Kyiv, one of the modern “patriotic” organizations. The “Mortar” and “Bradley” types were the first Western-style armored personnel carriers received in Ukraine.

So far, only Soviet models have been supplied to the war zone by Eastern European countries. However, Ukraine received anti-aircraft, armored personnel carriers and armored recovery vehicles from Western manufacturers. A shift of course was already hinted at when French President Emmanuel Macron promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky more heavily armed spy tanks.

Antonov said the weapons supplied to Kiev were not of the alleged “defensive nature”. The US government’s decision to supply Kiev with “Bradley” infantry fighting vehicles confirms that “the United States has not heeded repeated calls from the Russian side to consider the possible impact of such a dangerous course by Washington.”
