David Portnoy has slammed Swifties’ claims that he is a fake fan of the pop star by revealing that he received a handwritten letter from Taylor Swift.
The Barstool Sports founder is a longtime fan of the singer. Portnoy attended Tour of the ages at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey and praised his experience on the BFF’s podcast in June 2023. He also publicly defended Swift in her celebrity feuds with Scooter Braun, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
On Sunday, Portnoy spoke about his experience going to his second Swift concert on Saturday night, after he attended the second night of the concert Tour of the ages In Miami. Uploading a video to Instagram, he said the party was “amazing,” but the night was overshadowed by a video a woman posted about it online.

“It was a great night and I should be on cloud 9 but this girl recently went viral, attacking me and saying, ‘Swifties must hate this guy, and more importantly, Taylor’s camp hates Dave, and they’ve never talked to him.’” [or] “Portnoy said in the clip.
“They said I had never attended a concert before, which is not true, this is my second concert Tour of the ages. But it should have been a night of celebration, like this girl, raining down on my parade, saying, ‘They don’t like you,’ that is.
He then included a video of the clip he was referring to, in which a woman claimed that Swift’s team never reached out to Portnoy, Barstool Sports, or anything associated with the businessman, claiming it was “Swifty performing.”
“I got the VIP section, which was great. You know, I wanted to come in and talk about this letter that Austin Swift, her brother, handed to me – the 13 in there, and obviously I opened the letter – he hand-delivered it to me in the VIP section from Taylor,” Portnoy continued.
“But this girl says, ‘Oh Taylor hates him, they don’t want him there, they don’t like him.’ This message from Taylor herself was delivered to me in the VIP section.”

Portnoy then held up the envelope containing the note, which was sealed in green wax bearing the 14-time Grammy winner’s lucky number 13. He then proceeded to show that the note came “from Taylor Swift’s office”, before reading it.
“Dave, I’m so happy to have you on the show tonight!” I wanted to say thank you for your constant support, your extreme loyalty, and for supporting me when so many people didn’t. I hope you did “Blast tonight!! Love, Taylor,” Portnoy said as he read what the star wrote.
“That should have been the highlight, right?” Continue. “Taylor would write me this letter that was hand-delivered or maybe when her mom Andrea came over and Austin was like, ‘Hey, my mom wants to meet you.’ And we had like, a real hug, like, a real hug.
Portnoy said Swift’s mother told him the family appreciated the support he had given Swift over the years. He also said that Trey Pine, Swift’s publicist, was “amazing.” However, he couldn’t stop thinking about the video the woman made of him and criticized her for thinking she was “the gatekeeper of Swifties”. He even said he could ask Payne to ban the woman from future Swift concerts if he wanted, but he wanted to keep things “positive.”
“I think Taylor would like me to take the high road, so I’ll do it, but this girl who talked about how well I’m doing and how Taylor Swift’s camp wants nothing to do with me, let’s make love, let’s make love,” he concluded. .
“Yes, I’m having the time of my life, yes, I can’t believe I’m in Austin, yes I haven’t met Taylor but I don’t think she meets people when she performs. That means more, let’s take it” She took the time to write a handwritten letter…so “Yes, I would say it was one of the best nights I’ve had in a long time.”
Portnoy has shown his support for Swift for years now, and after the singer endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for President of the United States via Instagram on September 10, the Barstool Sports founder took to X (formerly Twitter) to let fans know he thinks the singer doesn’t change no matter who you vote for.
“As Queen Swifty, people ask me what I think about her endorsing Kamala. I don’t care at all. People can vote for whoever they want in this country. Voting for someone will never change my opinion of anyone,” to publish.
Portnoy also confirmed that he would vote for Republican nominee Donald Trump, writing: “I’ll vote the other way but to their own.”
