Poll: Two-thirds of Germans favor peace talks

1.35 am: eIn the year following the Russian attack on Ukraine, two-thirds of the population in Germany favors immediate peace talks. A poll conducted by the opinion polling firm YouKow on behalf of the German Press Agency found that 67 percent of respondents were in favor of Russia and Ukraine starting talks to end the war. 21 percent are against and 12 percent did not provide any information.

However, there is relatively little hope that the war will end soon. Only 14 percent of those surveyed expect it to end this year and 21 percent expect it to end next year. On the other hand, 42 percent believe the war will last beyond 2024.
