Apple is expected to unveil the much-awaited special edition iPhone 8 at its keynote on September 12. We’ve already comes across several reports that the handset’s launch would be delayed, as Apple is experiencing supply issues with OLED displays for the anniversary-edition model. Now, Rosenblatt analyst Jun Zhang also asserts that the handset’s delay is imminent, but for a different reason we’ve heard so far in past reports.

According to Zhang, the special-edition iPhone (likely to be called the iPhone X or iPhone Edition) would be delayed beacuse of issues with the metal frame. However, he did not specify the exact issue Apple is experiencing with metal frames.

The special edition iPhone 8 will feature an edge-to-edge display with a glass body that are supposed to be housed within a metal frame. The handset is expected to be quite different from past iPhones, both in terms of features and design. Other notable changes expected include wireless charging, the Home button would be removed and Touch ID will be replaced with a new facial recognition system.

Apple is expected to announce all three iPhone models at the event. But Zhang suggests the special edition model will hit store shelves in October. The other two iPhone models (likely to called the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus) that’ll be unveiled on September 12 are on track to arrive in stores this month. Pre-orders for these models are expected to begin on September 15. Though, it appears buyers will have to wait until October to get their hands on the special edition iPhone 8.

The next version of Apple’s mobile OS – the iOS 11 will power Apple’s 2017 iPhone line-up out of the box. And a leaked final build of the upcoming version of iOS suggests these devices will be called iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus, and the iPhone X. The former will sport a 4.7-inch display that’ll essentially be an upgrade to the current-gen the iPhone 7, while the iPhone 8 Plus will be the upgraded version of the iPhone 7 Plus. Finally, the iPhone X will be the eagerly anticipated 10th anniversary model that’s generated all the hype until now. Will it worth it, we’ll soon find out as Apple’s fall keynote event is almost upon us.
