Apple Airpods would be an uphill climb to buy this holiday season, as key sources suggest that most online retailers have sold out their stock. The likes of Amazon, Walmart, BestBuy, and Target appear to be out of stock for the Apple Airpods, or requires customers to make pre-bookings until the next stock arrives.

Even Apple’s own online store is currently showing them out of stock, and listing January 5 as the earliest shipping date for its wireless headphones.

Apple has struggled to offer enough stock for its wireless headphones since their debut in 2016. They were officially supposed to debut in October last year, but they finally arrived in late December. It appears Apple has been trying to play catch up ever since they were introduced last year.

Apple is yet to comment on their availability. However, Apple CEO Tim Cook did mention supply issues with Airpods during the company’s earnings call in May.

“We have increased production capacity for AirPods and are working very hard to get them to customers as quickly as we can, but we are still not able to meet the strong level of demand,” he said.

However, analysts are not surprised they’ve gone out of stock. According to them, a combination of affordability and sound quality have made them one of the hottest selling items for this holiday season.

To recall, Apple ditched the standard headphone jack since the introduction of the iPhone 7 last year, making it mandatory for users to purchase compatible Bluetooth wireless headphones. Despite the availability of other brands, Air pods are tailor-made for new iPhones thanks to Apple’s proprietary W1 chip that make them connect within seconds.

With Christmas almost upon us, many holiday shoppers must buy them from somewhere else. And many resellers on eBay are looking to cash-in on this opportunity as prices of Apple Airpods on eBay have gone as high as $350. Though you might still be able to get your hands on a pair ahead of Christmas.
