Google is rolling out the next version of Android Auto, version 13.0, which doesn’t bring any user-facing changes, but it does continue some work behind the scenes.

About APK Insight: In this APK Insight post, we break down the latest version of the app that Google has uploaded to the Play Store. When we parse these files (called APK files, in the case of Android apps), we are able to see different lines of code within those that hint at potential future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not ship these features at all, and our explanation of what they are may be incomplete. We’ll try to enable those that are close to being finished, however, to show you what they’ll look like when they charge. With that in mind, read on.

Android Auto app updates are usually fairly insignificant, but the latest version has now reached v13.0. What does this mean for you as a user? While the updates will likely address some bugs and make various fixes, there are no user-facing changes from what we can see.

But behind the scenes, the update continues to develop a new feature.

With the past few versions of Android Auto, Google has been working on controlling AM/FM radio as well as local media, and Android Auto v13.0 continues to work on that. In the latest update, we spotted threads referring to the feature as “car media” and covering how it works with lost or unavailable media.

  • Car media
  • %1$s is not available.
  • unknown
  • Car media sources

It’s still unclear when this feature will come, as it’s still not in Android Auto 13.0, but Google continues to develop it behind the scenes.

Previously, feature icons were added to the app.

Android Auto v13.0 is rolling out now via the Play Store.
