Samsung says that the smartphone models of Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be getting new Android 8.0 Oreo update. All the models of this series will be getting this update within two or three weeks. The update will be available to the unlocked units of the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus and Galaxy Note 8.
The moderator of the Samsung company does not provide the specific date to release the software package but the staff said that the upgrade of the operating system is in final testing phase. The moderator of the company also said about the reasons on why the network operators are able to provide a software package to carrier-locked models first in the United States.
The community staff said that the firmware of the three smartphones unlocked models need to be tested and approved by all the carriers before it is rolled out to costumers. This is required for all the devices and will function properly on all the supported network carriers. The carrier-locked models need to be tested for one carrier only.
The new features that the software upgrade will be bringing to Android 8.0 Oreo include the picture-in-picture mode. The function of notification dots and the autofill feature.
The picture-in-picture mode allows users to view two applications at the same time by placing one app in a smaller window and other on the top of another application. The function of notification dots is to inform the user on which apps have notifications present on the home screen. Users can also use to access a set of quick in-app actions. The function of auto-fill is to reduce the time spent by the user in logging to app and websites by remembering all the important information which also includes usernames and passwords.
This upgrade also brings the improvements by reducing the boot-up times and background app optimizers.
