Since celebrities are hold a major influence circle in any country they are bound to be caught in the cross fire by nations in context to building favorable social media ecosystems for them. Consequentially, many such celebrities fall under the radar of the cyber espionage missions run by offensive countries. A wave of shock ran through the entire industry recently when Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was targeted by Turkish hacking group.
The hacker from Turkey post hacking Mr.Amitabh Bachchan’s Twitter account changed the profile photo, cover photo as well as the Twitter bio of the star.
to a Turkish entity. Soon after which he posted a provocative tweet that said, “The Indian State, who mercilessly attacks the Muslims fasting in the month of Ramadan, is attacking the Ummah Muhammad in this age! Indian Muslims are entrusted to us by Abdulhamid.” The political and religious provocative indicates that the hacking was meant for a larger unknown agenda .However as soon as it got noticed the tweet was deleted Mr. Bachchan’s account is now restored by the cyber security team and normality was restored.
This recent hack has made celebrities very apprehensive about their social media presence. Other celebrities who were hacked included Karan Johar, Shruti Hassan, Anupam Kher, Shahid Kapoor, Amy Jackson, Hritik Roushan, Urvashi Rautela and Rakul Preet.
The Twitter account of the mentioned celebrities were hacked too but there has been an underlining difference in the post hacking activity unlike other hacked accounts wherein the hacker tried to make a connection with other celebrities through the hacked account, Mr.Amitabh Bachchan’s account seemed to hacked for influencing a larger segment of Indian audience against the state which is a serious concern.
Strict action and security is already in place but perhaps a little caution may still be required to avoid such episodes.
