An American tourist risked his life for the perfect selfie on Mount Vesuvius in Italy. According to several local media, the 23-year-old fell into the crater of the volcano near Naples last Saturday, but was only slightly injured.

At the time, the family was traveling in Solfatara, a crater in the Pozzuoli suburb west of Naples. According to authorities, the eleven-year-old boy jumped over a barrier and then fell into a ditch. His parents tried to save him. All three are believed to have suffocated to death from escaping gases. According to the visitor center, the family’s youngest son was behind the barrier and unharmed.
