Last fall, Ukrainian troops liberated a narrow strip of land east of the Dnipro River. Russian units manage to close the bridgehead. After months of fierce fighting, Kiev’s units withdraw from the area.

Ukrainian forces have reportedly evacuated their bridgehead on the eastern side of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. The unions withdrew a few weeks ago, as reported by Ukrainian public broadcaster Zaspilne.

Earlier, the news portal Liga.net, citing General Staff sources, reported the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the village of Krynky in the Kherson region and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region. “In both the settlements, due to widespread destruction, there was no point in holding positions and the security forces retreated to save the lives of the militants,” a source said.

Ukrainian marines liberated a small area around the village of Kringi in Dnipro in October 2023. However, Russian troops were able to quickly close the bridge. Ukraine has not gained any further ground in the region. To supply and transport troops, Kiev relies on boats, which have repeatedly become the target of Russian combat drones. In January, the Ukrainian military leadership expressed its desire to expand its positions in the eastern part of the Dnipro.

The man in charge of the amphibious landing operation at Krynky was the former head of the Ukrainian Marine Corps, Lt. Gen. Yuriy Sodol, who was dismissed as commander of the combined forces by President Volodymyr Zelensky a few weeks ago. The general was accused of careless orders which led to heavy losses.
