Morrisville, North Carolina – The woman who caused a flight from Jacksonville, Fla., to Washington, D.C., to land at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, said Wednesday’s incident was a major misunderstanding.
Tiffany Miles is facing an airport obstruction charge. On Thursday, she got out of jail and on her way to Washington, D.C. paid a $1,000 bond and was released around 1 a.m. Thursday.
Airline personnel flagged air traffic control to report that Miles was trying to hack the cockpit of American Airlines Flight 3444. However, Miles said she was headed to the bathroom after getting into an argument with a flight attendant.
American Airlines said Miles was unruly and filed a security concern, forcing an emergency landing at RDU on Wednesday.
“I’m allowed to be upset,” said Miles. Anger is not against the law.
Miles said she had anxiety and tried to order a cocktail. A flight attendant told her there was no drink service. The flight attendant refused, asking the captain why there was no drink service on the flight.
“I have anxiety,” Miles said. “So, sometimes I need a cocktail to calm down and calm down.”
After the confrontation, Miles said she got up and was walking towards the bathroom, in the direction of the cockpit. There, a flight attendant stops her and a passenger intervenes to calm her down.
“I started freaking out because a lot of people were starting to wake me up,” Miles said. I started freaking out completely, saying, ‘This isn’t required.
After about five minutes, the flight crew used zip ties and seated them in the back of the plane until the plane landed safely at RDU.
“I never expected to go to jail,” Miles said.
Miles is scheduled to appear in Wake County Court on March 27 on a misdemeanor charge.
The FBI interviewed Miles on RDU Wednesday. She did not face any federal charges as of Thursday afternoon. The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Police Department filed a misdemeanor airport obstruction suit against Miles.
