It was said that the pilots tried to return to the airport to make an emergency landing, but they were unable to do so.

However, the crew was able to move the burning plane away from a residential area, before it crashed in the forest near a cemetery outside the village of Bogorodskoe, Telegram channel “112” reported.

The four-engined Il-76 is a heavy transport aircraft that has been in service since the 1970s with the Soviet and then Russian Air Forces.
