A plane collides with another plane while traveling at Logan Airport

A Delta flight bound for Los Angeles from Boston’s Logan Airport hit the wing of another plane as it was running out of the gate Friday night. A passenger on Delta Flight 458 posted photos on social media of damage to the wing of a Boeing 757 Delta. The photo showed the wing of a Boeing 757 hitting the upper wing of a CRJ-900 Delta Connection parked at a nearby gate. “This was the weirdest thing, like we were in rush hour and we had a flap,” said passenger Samantha Butler. “It was very strange.” The professor in residence at the University of California, Los Angeles, was attending a science conference in Boston and was returning home Friday evening. “We were barely out of the gate before that happened,” Butler said. “We’re moving out and there’s a crisis.” A Masport spokesman said the accident involved two Delta planes. “Both were at the gates and when one pushed back (at a low rate of speed) it hit the wing of the other plane,” the spokesman said. No passengers were injured. “We put our windows up and you can see that the plane, the tip of the wing, has cut off the tail of another plane, a plane stationary on the tarmac,” Butler said. “I’m just literally speechless about how this happened.” “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delays in their travel plans following the simple low-speed connection of Delta Flight 458 to Endeavor Flight 5488, which operates as Delta Connect,” a Delta spokesperson said. “All customers and crew have disembarked safely and normally. Customers will be reaccommodated on new aircraft to their destinations.”
