Remarkably, the New York Jets suffered their worst loss so far on Sunday in a busy season, falling to the New England Patriots 25-22.
The Pats are widely viewed as one of the worst teams in the league and lost their best offensive player in rookie quarterback Drake Maye to a head injury in the first half. Losing to that roster is bad enough for New York, and even worse when considering how much Gang Green needed this win.
Instead, the Jets drop to 2-6 and their outlook for the season looks abysmal. Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 233 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the day, had a very candid quote about the defeat when he spoke to reporters after the game.
Winning is hard, and it gets harder when the team gets in their own way.
“The NFL is tough,” Rodgers He said to the media after admitting that he was disappointed by the loss. “It’s hard to win. It’s harder when you make it hard for yourself.”
The Jets didn’t turn the ball over but committed eight penalties for 55 yards and gave up a huge punt to set up the Patriots for their third and final touchdown of the day. In other words, there were not many self-inflicted wounds but there were enough to decide their fate.
A loss this week would make it a long week for the Jets, who are now tied with New England for last place in the AFC East.
