Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released soon, on October 25 on PS5 and PS4, and the latest action-packed version will support an enhanced headset mode. This mode uses Immerse Spatial Audio technology to “increase the accuracy of the direction of sounds” in-game, which can be further customized to suit your head shape. This third-party audio tool and alleged potential feature can be yours for just $20 for five years, and there’s even a free trial.

The revelation caused an initial knee-jerk reaction online, although it may be worth considering just how effective this new technology will ultimately be. IGN I immersed myself in the extensive Activision Blog post On that subject, the short version is as follows: Embody is an audio company that previously worked on Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy XIV, with their technology built in to make games more immersive.

Black Ops 6 players can enhance this enhanced headset mode by paying for a premium, personalized headset profile “created specifically for the Call of Duty soundscape.” Activision failed to point out that the service carries a hefty price tag, and with its launch now, players are discovering and voicing their concerns.
