The team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has disbanded, according to a report from French media outlet Origami.
In a Video published today in French (Which IGN independently verified A Translation published on ResetEra), Origami reported that the team behind The Lost Crown has disbanded despite seemingly positive reports from the developers about their experiences working on the game.
In a tweet by Gauthier Andres: “I heard and read the phrase ‘it was the best game ever made in my entire life’ three or four times in one weekend while getting information about game development. I was told this one after the other.” It was seen as a beacon of hope to create a safe space for people who were burned by Beyond Good & Evil 2. The team was disbanded by Ubisoft.

The video also indicates that the game’s fate was effectively sealed just a few weeks after its release. The game’s core development team has reportedly struggled to get a sequel or at least more expansions beyond the single “Mask of Darkness” expansion, but Ubisoft allegedly needs more help with other projects that have better sales potential. According to the report, The Lost Crown did not meet Ubisoft’s sales expectations, and executives expressed concerns that the sequel would cannibalize the first game’s sales in the long term.
The game is being developed at Ubisoft Montpellier, which employs hundreds of people and was last known to be working on the endless runner Beyond Good and Evil 2. When asked for comment, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown senior producer Abdul Haq Al-Jais sent a statement to IGN, “I am extremely proud of the work and passion of our team at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that has resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success.” Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has now reached the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC released in September.
“We’re now focused on making the game available to more players: it recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter. Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have moved on to other games. Projects that will benefit from Their experiences, we know players love this brand and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.
We gave Prince of Persia an 8/10 in our review, saying that it “not only captures what made games like The Sands of Time so good, but it gets rid of a lot of the little issues that plagued the 3D games in the series by opting for a two-person perspective.” Dimensions – and owning it.”
