It’s been a big year for Windows running on Arm chips, something Microsoft and Arm chip makers have been trying to achieve for more than a decade. At the heart of dozens of Copilot+ Windows PCs are Qualcomm’s Snapdragon
Part of the initial wave of Copilot+ PCs was One Desktop, an $899 development kit from Qualcomm itself that would give developers and testers a slightly cheaper way to buy into the Copilot+ ecosystem. Microsoft introduced a similar Arm-powered development kit two years ago.
But Qualcomm unceremoniously canceled the dev kit and sent refunds to those who ordered it. That’s according to a note received by developer and YouTuber Jeff Geerling, who already received the Snapdragon Dev Kit and gave it an average review A few weeks ago.
“The launch of more than 30 Snapdragon “However, the overall Developer Kit product did not meet our usual standards of excellence and so we are reaching out to let you know that we have unfortunately made the decision to pause and support this product indefinitely.”
Qualcomm’s statement also notes that “no material, if received”, will be returned – those lucky enough to have received one of the development kits so far may be able to keep it and get their money back, despite the lack of a PC. It is officially supported by Qualcomm.
