New England Patriots @ New York Jets

brillon allen Mixing continues in: Allen had a career-high in touches by midway through the third quarter.

Last week, Allen surprised many by carrying the ball seven times for 33 yards and a score, while also catching two passes for 23 yards and a score. Last week, he was used especially mid-game. Hall played all 12 snaps on the first three attempts. Then he split the snaps over the next five attempts at 18 apiece, which included four plays with both players on the field. Hall then finished the game with 11 of the final 13 snaps.

This week, Allen was more involved throughout the game. He started the second offense and played snaps consistently on every offense outside of the first. Allen touched the ball nearly half the time when he was on the field in Week 2, and instead of declining, that increased this week. At the end of the third quarter, his rookie teammate Isaiah Davis He made his attacking debut, and was included in the starting line-up for the match.

Allen looks like he could have a standalone value in games where the New York Jets are the favorites to win. It wouldn’t be surprising if Bryce Hall Hall could have dominated the snaps in a more competitive game. Allen’s emergence has put a ceiling on Hall’s fantasy potential. Ideally, in a game like this, Hall would have carried 20 or more for 100+ yards to accompany his receiving, but that hasn’t happened with the starters playing more. Hall will still be a player who should start every week, even if his ceiling is a little lower.

Mike Williams The shots take a step back: Williams was in the mix to fill the third wide receiver spot after dominating the job in Week 2.

Williams only played in nine offensive plays in Week 1, which wasn’t a concern considering he was coming off an ACL injury. He was listed on the injury report prior to Weeks 1 and 2 with a knee injury.

In the second week, that number rose to 37 shots, while Xavier Gibson Williams played just six games. He played 29 of 34 possible shots in three-man sets and eight of 21 in two-man sets. He wasn’t listed on the injury report this week, so he appeared ready to go.

Instead, he was paired with Gibson in three-receiver sets. While he lost a lot of playing time in three-receiver sets, he began to equalize with Allen Lazard In receiver groups. He caught three passes for 34 yards and was on target on two passes in the end zone that both ended incomplete, including one that was ultimately overturned due to a penalty, so it doesn’t show up on the stat sheet.

The short week could certainly explain why Williams’ involvement has been limited, or the Jets simply want Gibson to get more opportunities on offense. Williams’ end zone goals are encouraging, but he still can’t be considered a starter.

Antonio Gibson Shine in Garbage Time: Gibson largely disappeared until the end of the game.

Gibson played just seven offensive snaps in the first 50 minutes of the game. All of his work came on third downs or when the team was down by three in the final 10 minutes. Much of that had to do with the script. Most of the time Gibson was on the field last week, the Patriots had a longer offense.

Rhamundry Stevenson He played in 53 of 63 possible snaps on the first three plays of drives in the first two weeks. The biggest difference this week is that most Patriots drives didn’t last more than three plays. Gibson was given the ball consistently in the final few minutes of the game, leading Gibson to lead the team in rushing yards and catch the third-most passes. All of this means that Stephenson remains the Patriots’ leading quarterback. That’s been true in all three games, and Gibson’s strong performance last week didn’t change anything.

Gibson is still acceptable to keep as a holdover from Stephenson, but Gibson is unlikely to have any independent value this season unless the Patriots’ offense starts playing much better.

Miscellaneous notes

  • while Tyler Conklin He had his best game of the season, and his role in the attack has not changed. He is like Hunter Henrywho had a great game last week and did almost nothing this week. Both are running midfielders who will have a few good weeks throughout the season, but they aren’t targeted enough to be trusted in fantasy starting lineups. They’re good offseason replacements.
  • The Patriots kept six active players for this game after keeping five in the first two games. That means both Javon Baker and Kaishon Buti They were active.
  • New England’s wide receiver rotation was very similar to last week. Galyn Polk, KJ Osborne and Tequan Thornton Spinning around while De Mario Douglas Join groups of three receivers.
  • The Patriots’ play count will seem skewed because their longest attempt was their final loss which mostly involved reserve players in the game. Kaishon Buti He received most of his work on that 16-play drive, and Thornton didn’t play at all, which is why Thornton’s snaps were much lower than the Patriots’ other receivers. Likewise, Austin Hopper I ran more tracks than Henry on that trip.
  • New York Jets fourth-rounder, Israel Abanikanda, He was inactive all week.
  • The New York Jets ran more plays from three tight end sets in the first half than they did in the first two games combined.
  • New York’s third-round rookie receiver Malachi Curly He played one offensive snap in each of the first two games and did not play a single offensive snap in this game despite the crushing win.

Table notes
  • The footage includes plays that were nullified due to penalties, including offensive catches or defensive pass interference. These plays are removed from the other three statistics.
  • Targets may differ from official NFL sources. The difference is likely due to a clear pass being thrown wide, as the NFL may pass the target to the nearest receiver, while this data will not.
  • Carrying the ball will only count on designed plays. Quarterback attempts will not count towards the total number of carries in the game.
