Paramount Pictures on Tuesday released a trailer for the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3, The film offers a fresh look at the confrontation between Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and his new opponent Shadow the Hedgehog, presented by Keanu Reeves.

In the third film based on the video game series produced by Sega, Sonic reunites with his friends Knuckles (Idris Iba) and Tails (Colin O’Shaughnessy) to face a powerful new opponent, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike any other he’s ever seen. With their powers outmatched, Sonic’s team must forge an unlikely alliance in hopes of stopping Shadow and saving the planet.

It was first introduced in the video game. Sonic Adventure 2 In 2001, Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, grandfather of Sonic’s arch-nemesis, Doctor Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Possessing extraordinary speed, as well as the ability to control chaos, a power that allows him to manipulate time and space, Shadow was initially portrayed as an adversary to Sonic, though in the Sega video games on which the film franchise was based, he eventually became an ally.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to hit theaters after two films that grossed over $319 million at the worldwide box office, and is set to open on December 20. Jeff Fowler has served as director for all three installments, in this case working from a screenplay by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington, based on a story by Casey and Miller.

Besides Reeves, Krysten Ritter is the most popular new addition to the cast. Sonic In the third film, her role remains unannounced. Other returning cast members include Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Tika Sumpter, and Elba. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Asher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno are producing, along with executive producers Haruki Satomi, Shoji Utsumi, Yukio Sugino, Fowler, Tommy Gormley, and Tim Miller.
