Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president of the United States. He did so by quoting Warriors star Steph Curry during the microphone drop.
“After the votes are counted (on November 5), in the words of the great Steph Curry, we can say to Donald Trump… good night!” Kerr said at the Democratic National Convention on Monday, reenacting what happened at the Democratic National Convention on Monday. Kerr appeared on the first day of the Democratic National Convention at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, where Kerr has won five NBA championships (1996-99, 2003), after leading the U.S. men’s national basketball team to a fifth straight gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics earlier this month.
“You know, a lot of good things happened at the United Center, especially in the ’90s. You guys, if you Google ‘Michael Jordan,’ you can read all about him,” Kerr joked. “There was an amazing atmosphere in the building back then and I feel that same winning spirit here tonight.”
Although Kerr said he would be criticized for speaking at a political event — “I can see the ‘shut up and whistle’ tweets going off as we speak” — the 58-year-old said the upcoming election “is too important to me as an American citizen to not speak up.”

“As a coach and former player… I believe in a certain type of leadership,” Kerr said. “I believe leaders should show dignity. I believe leaders should tell the truth. I believe leaders should be able to laugh at themselves. I believe leaders should care about and love the people they lead. I believe leaders should be logical and experienced, but with the full awareness that none of us have all the answers. In fact, some of the best answers come from the team members.”
Kerr said he “sees all of those qualities” in Harris and her vice presidential nominee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
“I can’t think of a better metaphor for what this country represents than the way Team USA came together at the Olympics. We had athletes from all over our great country… coming together to wear red, white and blue,” Kerr said. “The joy, compassion and commitment to our country that we saw at the Olympics is what Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have and what our country needs. Leadership. Real leadership. Not the kind that seeks to divide us, but the kind that recognizes and celebrates our common purpose.”
Last month, Harris visited Kerr and the U.S. men’s national basketball team as they trained in Las Vegas ahead of the team’s Olympic trip to Paris. Kerr said her visit was “a great reminder that we’re playing for our country and that Vice President Harris has been great.”
