RBC Ukraine. He also stressed: “The sooner Russia agrees to restore a just peace… the sooner the Ukrainian security forces’ attacks on Russia will stop.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin himself speculated that the attack on the Kursk region helped give Ukrainians more room to maneuver in potential peace talks. But for now, it doesn’t look like a ceasefire or peace talks will happen anytime soon. “The current main task is to drive the enemy from our territories and strike back, as well as to ensure reliable border security,” Putin said at a briefing on Monday.

Kursk offensive to ease pressure on Ukraine front?

Regional officials are urging Moscow to place the region under a federal state of emergency, as was declared in Kursk Oblast following the Ukrainian attacks. So far, the Kursk offensive has forced tens of thousands of Russians to flee the region. Ukrainian troops reportedly advanced into Russia as far as Korenevo on August 13, according to geospatial video footage from Russian military bloggers, the “Institute for the Study of War” (ISW) reported.

It has been reported that Russia needs to withdraw Russian forces from the Donetsk region in particular to bring the offensive in Ukraine under control. However, now the advance of Ukrainian troops continues. ISW also speculated that the withdrawal of Russian troops would lead to a slowdown in Russian advances on the Ukrainian front. (sir)
