haunted house in space

We got our first look at Alien: Romulusthe ninth installment in the sci-fi franchise, was released in March with a short trailer. The footage showed promise that Alvarez could deliver on his intention of returning this standalone film to the franchise’s minimalist space horror roots. There were also some special shots Screened at CinemaCon In April, the highly anticipated film, featuring face-hugging and chest-exploding scenes, was released. A full trailer was released in March, and the film looked as bloody, intense, and delightfully terrifying as the first two blockbuster films in the franchise, with some creepy atmospheres reminiscent of space-based haunted houses.

This latest trailer features much of the same footage but gives us a few more details about the plot. The young alien colonists are preparing to steal “strictly regulated equipment” from the aforementioned abandoned space station, mostly because Tyler believes it “might be our only way out of here.” The team believes the mission should be quick, with in and out possible in 30 minutes. But we know better, don’t we?

They are greeted at the Romulus space station by the MU/TH/UR (ship computer), and Bjorn is the first to say out loud that this space station is very scary. Poor Bjorn is the first to hug his face, followed by Navarro – she’s the one we saw in earlier footage discovering that there’s an alien growing inside her chest. In this trailer, we see the chest blaster preparing to emerge, much to Kai’s understandable horror. Kai, Ren, Andy and Tyler pull out their weapons, preparing to take on the monsters together. But how much do we like their chances of survival against the ultimate killing machines? Especially given the ominous final countdown to the “impact event”…

Alien: Romulus It will be released in theaters on August 16, 2024.
