Quaker recalls granola bar due to possible 'contamination'

(WKBN) – Quaker Oats Company Announced Wednesday It has expanded a national recall of its granola bars.

The company now says its Quaker Chewy Dipps Llama Rama, which was discontinued in September 2023, has been added to the list of previously recalled products.

The reason, Quaker stated, was the possibility of “salmonella contamination.”

The affected products carry “best before” dates of February 10 or 11, 2024. The USDA said the products were sold throughout the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and Saipan.

The CDC estimates that salmonella bacteria cause approximately 1.3 million infections each year, including about 420 deaths. More serious infections often affect children, older adults, or those with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of salmonella, which can begin six days after eating contaminated food, include diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps and possible nausea, vomiting or headache. Those who experience more severe symptoms — including dehydration, prolonged vomiting, prolonged diarrhea, or diarrhea with a fever over 102 degrees F, among other symptoms — should contact a doctor immediately.
