Scooter Braun controversy: Why did major clients including Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato break up?

Scooter Braun, one of the biggest music managers in the world, appeared unfazed by reports this week that two of his star clients had parted ways.

This week, pop star Demi Lovato and singer, actress and West End star Idina Menzel have allegedly walked out of Braun’s projects at SB. Sources close to the artists confirmed this to The Independent.

The Independent Brown’s representatives have been contacted for comment.

Rumors have swirled that pop singer Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber, both of whom have been working with Brown since the release of their debut album, are also set to part ways with the 42-year-old’s management services.

However, Bieber and Brown’s representatives denied that the pair had severed professional ties.

On Twitter/X on Tuesday (August 22), Brown broke his silence by mocking the speculation, writing: “Breaking news… I’m not managing myself anymore.”

Scooter Braun has been known to be embroiled in a dispute with Taylor Swift since 2019, when he bought her old label Big Machine Records and became the master recording owner of her first six studio albums.

In November 2020, Brown sold the Masters to an investment fund in a deal believed to be in excess of $300m (£234m).

At the time of the sale, Swift, who had wanted to buy the professors herself, condemned Brown as a “bully” and “the definition of toxic male privilege in our industry”.

The 33-year-old singer was inspired to re-record her earlier music, which led to Taylor’s ongoing series of releases.

It has registered so far: Fearless (Taylor version), Red (Taylor version) and sPeak Now (Taylor Version).
