The Louisville Auto Workers union voted to allow the strike if the contract was not accepted by the Ford Motor Company. UAW Local 862 voted overwhelmingly in support of the right to strike at 99%, according to President Todd Dunn. Video in the player above dating back to when voting was still going on. The result does not necessarily mean that there will be a strike. The union said this gives labor contract negotiators support from workers to show they are willing to take additional steps, if necessary, to get the contract they want. UAW Local 862 represents the regular members of the assembly plant in Louisville and the truck plant in Kentucky. They began voting at 11:30 a.m. Monday on approval of a nationwide strike by the union. Polls closed at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Ford said in a statement that the automaker looks forward to working on solutions. We look forward to working with the UAW on creative solutions during this time when our dramatically changing industry needs a skilled and competitive workforce more than ever.
