DUkraine’s capital Kiev was attacked by drones early Monday morning. Local officials spoke of one of the biggest attacks on Kyiv since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against the country.
The Kyiv city administration announced on its Telegram channel that more than 20 Iranian-made Russian drones had been found in the city’s airspace. At least 15 people were shot down. Critical infrastructure was affected. There were no initial reports of casualties.
At 1:56 am, the civil administration of the capital issued the first flight alert, which lasted for more than three hours. A second alarm at 5:24 was canceled half an hour later. According to the Ukrainian military administration, the Russian armed forces used Iranian-made Shahed drones.
Just on Friday, Kiev was hit by Russian rockets. Moscow opened fire in other parts of the country as well. There were widespread power outages.

According to the Russian news agency Interfax, the Russian Armed Forces will begin tactical military exercises in Belarus. “The final assessment of the combat capability and combat readiness of the units will be made by the command at the final stage of consolidation – after conducting battalion tactical exercises,” Interfax reports, citing the Russian Defense Ministry. It was not immediately clear when and where the exercises would take place in Belarus. Great Britain wants to supply hundreds of thousands of rounds of artillery ammunition to Ukraine in its fight against Russia. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will present the new artillery package at a meeting of the Joint International Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Latvia on Monday, Downing Street said.
It said the £250 million (€287 million) deal would “ensure a stable supply of essential artillery ammunition to Ukraine throughout 2023”. Since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, Britain has already delivered more than 100,000 rounds of ammunition and other military equipment, including several missile systems and 125 anti-aircraft guns.
Sunak will meet with the leaders of JEF member states Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden in Riga, Latvia on Monday to discuss the war in Ukraine.
