Finally, Logitech makes a wireless mechanical keyboard with a true layout for Mac

Logitech has its own Mac-ified system MX MINI MECHANIC Wireless keyboard. This means that it has created a version of the truncated keyboard for people who use Mac computers. Logitech MX Mechanical Mini for Mac joins a handful of mechanical keyboards designed for macOS, from its use of Option and Command legends to software support and an Apple-like aesthetic. It’s designed for a cable-free setup and has fun typing but isn’t for it mechanical keyboard Enthusiasts who love different switch options, premium keycaps, high programmability…or number plates.

True Mac layout

Logitech released the MX Mechanical Mini keyboard, 75 percent off, along with full size Logitech MX mechanical in May. The Bluetooth LE portable keyboard can wirelessly connect to three devices, allowing users to choose which device they are controlling by pressing Fn and 1, 2, or 3. Officially, these devices can run Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux and Android, iOSor iPadOS. Because of that, Major Legends caters to both Windows and Mac users. The bottom row includes a key that can be Option or Start / Windows and a key that acts as Command or Alt.

MX Mechanical for Mac is not very neutral. Its design includes only Mac Legends, which makes it look cleaner to the bottom row than the original MX Mechanical Mini.

MX Mechanical for Mac still supports Bluetooth LE pairing with up to three devices and works perfectly fine when I used it with Windows 11 And 10 computers, a Logitech representative told me. However, Logitech only lists macOS, iOS, and iPadOS as an officially supported platform for the MX-for-Mac peripheral series, so support may not be helpful if your keyboard starts to act weird with any other operating system.

And unlike the original MX Mechanical Mini, the Mac version does not include a USB-A dongle. You can still pair the keyboard with a separately purchased Logitech USB receiver, but Logitech doesn’t make a USB-C dongle for Mac users who prefer the simplicity of a dongle or reduced latency and don’t have any USB-A ports.

All Mac users like white and gray, right?

You may also have noticed that the MX Mechanical Mini for Mac looks much whiter and brighter than its more platform-neutral counterpart. At a press briefing, a Logitech representative said the company aims to better match Apple’s aesthetic. The keyboard added a bright touch to my desk, and the shimmering silver metallic top plate above the gray plastic base makes for a great pizza. However, it seems limited that Mac users are not offered at least a darker color scheme than the original MX Mechanical Mini (and vice versa). Logitech assumes that because you’re using a Mac, you want a whiter keyboard.

However, the white keycaps are not easy to keep clean, especially when they are ABS plastic, which is known to attract fingerprint smudges more than the good ones from PBT. The keycaps are less smooth and loose than typical ABS but are still decently soft and lack grip. The Legends are laser engraved with a protective layer added on top, but they still fade after heavy and frequent use.

Unlike the original MX Mechanical Mini, which you can buy with Kailh’s low-level linear, tactile or click keys, the MX Mechanical Mini for Mac only has the low-level Kailh tactile keys. A Logitech rep told me this is because Mac users tend to want something quieter with strong tactile feedback.
