3 siblings live in outback Australia for 55 hours after a car crash kills their parents

Jake Day and Cindy Braddock “were involved in a fatal car crash in Western Australia on Christmas morning,” said a GoFundMe set up by Day’s cousin Casey Gower.

“Devastatingly, Jake and Cindy did not survive the crash,” he said, adding that “it was a miracle that their two beautiful children survived more than two days in outback Australia before they were rescued.”

The children are not named.

Day and Braddock were reported missing in the early hours of Christmas morning, prompting an intense police search. 7 news mentioned.

As the hours went by with no news, Braddock’s sister, Helen Braddock, turned to Facebook for help. She said the family left the small town of Northam “to go home to Condinane,” another small town about 125 miles away.

In a separate interview with 7News, Michael Reid, one of Day’s cousins, said the oldest of the three children, a 5-year-old girl, freed her 1-year-old brother by unclamping his car seat.

Calling her “clever”, he said her brother “would not be with us today” unless she did so.

Inspector Tony Folletta, of the Western Australian Police Force’s Whitpelt District Office, told 7News that the two older children were outside the car when authorities arrived on the scene with the infant still inside.

Their car was discovered just over 5 miles from their home in Kondinen.

Gower said on his fundraising page that both brothers, along with the 3-year-old, were taken to hospital.

“I have visited children,” he said, “and I cannot overcome their strength.”
