Gradually the Cadillac is reinforcing its crossover lineup and the compact XT4 has arrived finally to slot beneath the midsize XT5. Similar to its rivals, XT4 packs turbocharged power, a full suite of the latest and greatest onboard tech, and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive. It does not revolutionize the tiny luxury CUV space in any way, but it likely would find several happy homes with hungry crossover shoppers.

The 2019 XT4 would begin at 35,790 dollars, including the destination. That makes it some thousand dollars cheaper than the conventional midsize luxury-utes such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC300, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60, but the Cadillac is even a smaller in size than the competitors. The XT4 is bigger than the sub-compact BMW X1, Volvo XC40, and Mercedes GLA, but commands some thousand dollars more than the rivals. Despite properly slotting into a pre-established segment, the XT4 stands out like a bit of a ‘tweener.

Cadillac would offer XT4 in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. All the XT4s come with standard 18-inch wheels, though larger 20-inch rollers are there on Sport and Premium Luxury models. The other standard equipment involves an 8-inch Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system, LED headlights and taillights, and four USB ports and front-wheel drive.

All the XT4 models are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine, producing 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and Cadillac is calculating fuel economy numbers of 25 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined. Any XT4 model could be specified with an optional twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system that decouples the drivetrain from the rear wheels when AWD is not required, resulting in a better overall efficiency. Only XT4 Sport model extends an optional sport suspension. Inside, it is much of what is expected from Cadillac. The front and the center is an 8-inch touchscreen which has the CUE infotainment system, and the XT4 is the very first Cadillac that has a rotary control knob in the center console.
